Kalahari Minerals plc

Kalahari Minerals plc is a wholly owned by Taurus Mineral Limited (“Taurus”), a company formed at the direction of CGNPC Uranium Resources Co., Ltd (‘CGNPC-URC’) and the China-Africa Development Fund (‘CADFund’).  Kalahari Minerals was acquired by Taurus on 3 April 2012 and its shares were subsequently delisted from trading on AIM on 4 April 2012.  CGNPC-URC is an established and high profile uranium company and wholly owned subsidiary of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corp (‘CGNPC’), a Peoples Republic of China (‘PRC’) state owned nuclear power producer. CADFund is an equity development fund, indirectly owned by China Development Bank, which aims to support and encourage Chinese companies in developing countries in developing cooperation and investment in Africa.

The Taurus Mineral group also includes Extract Resources Limited, in which Kalahari Minerals holds a 43% interest. Extract Resources Limited owns the Husab Uranium Project in Namibia, the world’s third largest known primary uranium deposit.    Extract Resources’ operational focus is on the 100%-owned Husab Uranium Project in Namibia, which hosts the largest and highest grade, granite-hosted uranium deposit in the country. Since the initial discovery of uranium mineralisation at the northern end of Husab in February, 2008, Proven and Probable Reserves of 320 million pounds of U308 have been defined following JORC Code guidelines. This extensive reserve is expected to form the basis of a mining operation well in excess of 20 years.

Kalahari Minerals also holds a 38% interest in North River Resources plc. North River is an AIM listed mineral exploration and development company currently active in sub-Saharan Africa. North River’s primary interests are the Namib Lead-Zinc Project and the Malachite Pan Copper Project, both located in Namibia.
